Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
