One extended voyage around the Land Down Under is being halted days after the tragic passing of an elderly female passenger who was left behind by the cruise liner on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been walking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but parted ways from the excursion for a break. The vessel departed without her and came back later that day after the crew became aware the lady was not present.

A major search operation found her body the next day.

Authorities are investigating the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the state coroner.

The CEO of the cruise operator stated that passengers and crew on the vessel were notified that the continuation of the voyage had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and earlier technical problems".

Through an announcement, he added that guests would be provided a full refund, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the travel back of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also issued an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Commander" banning any additional guests from getting on the liner.

The representative said that they would attend the ship in the Australian city upon its coming back.

Timeline of Events

The ship originally sailed from the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the expedition at the point of the 80-year-old's death. The tropical location was the first stop on the journey.

Passengers on the ship - who generally pay tens of thousands of dollars to join the expedition - were transported there for a daily excursion with the possibility of walking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Response

The child of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "surprised and grieved that the ship left Lizard Island after an planned outing without my mum".

Through her comments, she characterized her parent as an "vigorous 80-year-old" who was a participant of a bushwalking club.

"Based on limited facts we have been informed, it looks that there was a lapse of attention and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She further stated that she hoped the examination would be able to determine what "the company should have performed that might have saved Mum's life".

"Based on information from the investigators that it was a exceptionally warm day, and mum fell ill on the hill climb," she revealed.

"Officials suggested her to go back, alone. Then the boat sailed away, seemingly without performing a headcount.

"During some point in that chain of events, or soon after, mum died, alone."

Organization Position

In a statement, the CEO affirmed that the company was "collaborating extensively with authorities to assist their examination".

He mentioned that the organization was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had provided its complete assistance to the loved ones.

The vessel serves up to one hundred twenty passengers with 46 personnel, according to official information. It was specifically designed to reach distant locations of Australia's shoreline and is outfitted with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to ferry individuals on land visits.
